Organizing a Cleaning Schedule to Make House Cleaning More Effective

Standard

‘The key is not to prioritize what’s on your schedule, but to schedule your priorities’ – Stephen Covey, Author of ‘The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People’

If you are not much of a planner, organizing a cleaning schedule may not be an appealing idea to you. However, if you think that cleaning your house is exhausting and that you are always trying to catch up on it, creating a schedule may do wonders in making your house cleaning habits more efficient.

When it comes to cleaning, it’s just about keeping it good enough at any given point in time, so that you do not feel stressed out  (unless you have an Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, of course).

Scheduling your cleaning routine will do just that. Once you have planned out what you need to do each day, you would not have to contemplate over it for too long.

Let us take a look at some steps that may help you create a reasonable cleaning schedule:

 List All Your Cleaning Chores

The first thing that you must do is to create a list of all your cleaning tasks. This will give you a clear idea and put you in the right frame of mind.

From things that require daily cleaning, such as mopping floors, to chores that require attention seasonally, such as cleaning the bathroom cabinet, make sure your write everything down.

Prioritize

Now that you’ve listed down all the tasks and have grouped them by frequency, the next step would be to realistically prioritize each of them. While all these tasks may require time that you may not possibly be able to give to them, you need to figure out what’s really important. This will give you a clear idea about what’s do-able and what’s not.

Manage Tasks According to Your Likings and Agendas

Your kids may go out every Saturday evening. This can be a good time for you to mop the floors (who wants kids running around the house while they mop!). Also, Thursday may be a hectic day at work. Make sure you know what will suit you best and schedule accordingly.

Keep Experimenting

Things may not work out as planned; feel free to make changes. After all it’s your schedule and you must feel comfortable with it. However, after a few weeks of experimentation, you will have a clear idea about what works for you and what doesn’t. When you have found the perfect schedule, make sure you stick to it.
